Another Salt Lake Photographer has $20,000 in gear stolen

Another Salt Lake Area photographer has $20,000 in equipment stolen after being followed from a wedding shoot at the Salt Lake Temple. Here is her blog entry: http://www.heidijphotography.com/blog/  She lost all her camera gear, her laptop and external hard drive and the rolling case everything was in. This one did not happen at Pictureline, but after she left Temple square and made a stop at Xpedex.

Here’s a quote from her blog which a friend of mine sent me a tweet about:  ”Alma met me there and called the cops.  I filed a report and then drove to 5 pawn shops, only to be told, not much can be done……..

The cops said that he was sure I had been followed from the temple and that had I locked my door as soon as I got out they would have busted my window, had I driven home, they may have broken in to my house…. you get the point.  They knew what I had and they knew what they wanted.

So once again I guess we need to be extra vigilant with our equipment and make sure to look around at our settings etc. Don’t think the police will be of much help on this one, unless one of use actually follows another photographer and gets photos or video of the thieves in action, or unless the cops get lucky. Either way it seems these people know exactly what they are doing and know exactly what they are looking for.

  1. I think a “Sting” operation is needed. Lets set up the crooks, and have the cops nearby.

All i can think is that I’m so glad that when I decided to buy my own “pro” equipment the first thing I did was get insurance…it may cost me a few hundard a year, but the piece of mind is great.
