As you may have seen in my earlier post, or plastered all over the news, New Mexico has been all over the news for one players actions on the field.

New Mexico defender Elizabeth Lambert was indefinitely suspended after her cheap shots on the pitch at BYU on Thursday during the MWC tournament semifinals.

We ran a small sequence (5 of the 11 frames) of one of her cheap shots (read: punches to to teeth) today in the Provo Daily Herald. While I did have the most talked about ponytail takedown, I only had the backs of the two players, so we opted for this sequence in print.

You can see the five frames we ran on my blog.

I’ve played my share of soccer and yeah, its a rough game, no doubt… but the behavior exhibited by Lambert was so far beyond the pale that in any other venue, it would be considered an offense worthy of arrest and even jail time. I’m no BYU fan, but I have to say that the BYU players handled themselves well there. Had it been my hair that was pulled like that, or the face slaps you documented, a brawl would have ensued in quick order.
