Who invented cold weather? I had to shoot a polar bear plunge up Provo canyon this morning. The temperature hovered around 9 degrees and I couldn’t feel anything, let alone the buttons on my camera. I am still frozen.

- The Poynter story has an animation that compares the altered photo he entered in a Bay area contest and the one he sent to the AP. http://www.poynter.org/latest- news/mediawire/161983/sacramen to-bee-fires-bryan-patrick-for -photo-manipulation/ His manipulations seem so minor, it begs the question, why do it at all? I guess he did win an award with the fire photo but I wonder how much the slightly bigger flames impacted the judges decision?
— Jud Burkett on Ethics 101 - They just fired him. The found two other manipulated photos, one that made the paper and one that was altered for a contest.
— Trent Nelson on Ethics 101 - I agree Trent, this is very sad. We have to have truth and accuracy on our side. If we don’t, we have nothing.
— scott winterton on Ethics 101 - Nice frames, Brian
— Trent Nelson on Wide Angle Weber - Thanks Trent for taking the time to help everybody out!
— Nathan Sweet on Utah Gymnastics Photo Info - This is a sad story, seeing such a talented photographer go down in flames. So far he’s suspended, but really, do you come back from this? Hopefully there aren’t more fakes in his files to be uncovered.
— Trent Nelson on Ethics 101 - Yes, same one that was in my other photo as well. And Grayson’s.
— Erik Daenitz on Day & Night - Was there an earthquake?
— Chris Detrick on Day & Night - Bawse
— Erik Daenitz on Lightspeed - Way to go “good photographer”! Loved the article.

I think your photo looks much better on a white background, with black text. Don’t you agree?
I do. But then again, I’ve never been a fan of white text on black. I feel like I could recite an entire post two hours later without even being near a computer. Hahaha.
Cold? Frozen? Ha! You’ll think this was balmy after you experience next month’s night World Cup freestyle events at Deer Valley Resort. Just be sure that you’ve refreshed all your batteries, they’re at a full charge and you keep them under your clothes against your semi-warm body. Once exposed to the bitter cold they’ll lose their energy quickly and you’ll have to swap them out. Be sure to put them back under your clothes to warm back up and they’ll regain some of their strength to be swapped out again. And if you’re really brave and not too afraid of wind chill frost bite, take the snowmobilies to and from the mountainside venue at full throttle. You’ll never complain about another polar plung assignment again.
Yep… Black text on white background. Works much better for the site… don’t you think? While white text on black backgrounds is great for the low vision community (read: going blind), it does make my eyes hurt for minutes afterwards.
Black on white – very nice. And easier on the eyes. Nice change. And Patrick – I feel your pain. Even a quick visit to Park City and it’s (relatively) balmy 24 degrees was not fun this morning. And Sundance is just around the corner with it’s cheery fun of standing outside in 5 degree weather waiting for celebs to show up to make lame photos. Awesome.
good call Patrick. black borders now on all images.
