I was asked to do a story about some of the women and mothers who work at the Lighthouse Lounge strip club after the mayor and city council of Ogden passed an ordinance that may shut down the bar for good. I figured it to be a much more difficult story to pursue than it turned out. I met Tiia Secor and Kandice Craig and spent time at their homes with their families and also at work at the Lighthouse. Tiia is a single mother taking caring of her 4-year-old daughter while going to school and said dancing at the club has never changed who she is. Her number one priority in life is to be a good parent. Kandice began dancing because both she and her daughter suffer from kidney disease and she was tired of working double shifts as a waitress and chef six or seven times a week and not having time for her child. She said she made more money the first couple times she performed at the Lighthouse than she would all week at the restaurant. It paid for two surgeries and medication for her daughter.
Both of these women were two of the most welcoming and honest people I’ve met during my time in Ogden, and it was a pleasure to be involved in their lives for a brief time.
There is a video about this story on my website here: Strip
