Congratulations on your internship, that sounds pretty awesome. There’s one piece of advice that I received when I was just getting going that might bring out a little more emotion in your photos- be mindful of how many faces are in profile in your photos. Like in this photo, it would be cool to see more of the dude on the guys shoulders face. Good luck, it sounds like an internship of a lifetime.
Interesting. So I ended up choosing this photo to post because I liked the action of the grooms throwing one of their own in the air. Here are a few other photos I considered posting on UTPJ. Do you think those would have been better choices instead of the one above?
Tough call. The one under “photos” is really nice too. For me the one you originally posted works just fine. I think it comes down to audience man, like some people might get bored with out faces, for me that nice action and the dude in the white shirt and the stuff on the dudes head in the foreground make it my favorite of the three. Totally depends on editors too, sometimes they want the quick read others like letting viewers work for it a bit. The nice thing about the frame you posted is the triangle you have from the foreground dude, white shirt dude and the fellow in the air, your eye bounces around, where the one where they guys face is framed so nicely, might not give the viewer that “ocular motion” if that is even a term….Nice stuff man, keep up the good work.
Mike is right, it is a matter of editor opinion. I am partial to the one labeled photo, but I probably would choose your original photo as secondary art to accompany it. I think together they both help tell the story and while you do get a great triangle effect on the original photo the eyes and faces help me connect with a joyous occasion, not to mention the great water or whatever is being sprayed into the air. Out of your second batch of photos I chose the one labeled photo because the other two have people who have their eyes just locked on to you. So I guess what I’m saying is its great to have faces in the photos but just as long as they aren’t too camera conscious. Does that make sense? Great job though.
