  1. From the photos it seems like there wasn’t a lot of energy at this protest. That’s why the top photo works so well for me, because the other shots really needed a lot more fire and passion from the protesters to work. Since that wasn’t there, you’ve got to get in closer or use some more creative compositions to draw in viewers. I like the angle of the third shot, too.

  2. Sorry it took me so long to reply to this. Blah, blah, blah, busy or whatever.

So this is an interesting perspective. It was definitely a mellow protest, a lot of shouting and flurries of singing, but it was very peaceful. One thing that’s really struck me about this culture is how sound changes the way things feel. It’s made me want to experiment with adding some audio to some of these photos. (Going to buy this book when I get home.)

One mistake I made was not adding any captions to these photos. Should have taken the time to add context.

  3. Another thing I’ve been thinking about is which photo should I even be posting? I typically have about 20 takes that I think are interesting enough. I’d like to start posting how Patrick Smith used to. I could use more discussion about my work. They’ve been an invaluable part of the experience for me. I’m sincerely grateful for the input that everyone has volunteered.

  4. Sometimes the hardest part is narrowing it down to one image. Let go of the photographs that aren’t as strong and pick the best single image. It’s hard to do.

  5. I think I need to change the way I think while shooting. I’m used to giving someone 300 photos at a wedding, so I’m not forced to try to illustrate an event with one image.

Good thing to keep in mind.
