Last weekend I was asked to go to the five-person fatal crash on SR39 on the Monte Cristo road. I have been doing this for a long time and it was one of the more difficult events I have had to cover. I wanted to post this for some of the younger photographers who read this blog. What we do is not always easy, but it is definitely important. We are often asked to document things that normal people wouldn’t even want to witness. But we do it because it is important for people to know and see the humanity of an event, that all human beings no matter their ethnicity or station in life are subject to the same emotions, difficulties and challenges that we all face.
We also document events so that perhaps by doing so others may learn from what has happened and future tragedies such as this one can be avoided.
I’m not as good as Doug, so I had to figure out how to use autofocus with all the water splashing around. So here are my favorites from last Saturday’s swim meet. They where all shot with a Canon Mark IV, 2500 ISO 1/640 @ 2.8. Click on the photos to enlarge them.
Patrick, It’s your turn now.
Jeff Allred and reporter Scott Taylor arrived in Port au Prince, Haiti at about 5:20 a.m. today after a flight to the Dominican Republic and a brutal all night drive through damaged and dangerous roads. They are in the company of LDS doctors and other relief and aid workers who went to Haiti to help do what they could for those injured due to the devastating earthquake. Here is the link to the story , which reporter Scott Taylor wrote on his blackberry while they bumped along the dirt roads in the countryside. A very compelling read. Also check out the slide show of Jeff Allred’s photos on the same page.
As Haiti is a dangerous place and these are our fellow colleagues, please keep them in your thoughts and prayers of safety.
Just posted some recent portraits I did for our special preview section for the Utah Jazz on my personal blog
