Black-footed ferrets

A black-footed ferret peers out from the safety of a pet carrier Friday as it is released into the wild in eastern Uintah County.

People take pictures after a black-footed ferret's release Friday in eastern Uintah County.

Covering the release of animals into the wild is one assignment I will never turn down.

More pictures, plus words and video here.

Doh?

Really kind of wishing I’d staged this grip-n-grin photo a bit differently, given the look on the kid’s face in the center of the frame. Then again, maybe not.

Whoa!

I’m posting this for one of the photogs on my small staff, Steve Puro. He captured this moment Saturday at the Duchesne County Fair Rodeo. I think the look on the pickup man’s face says it all.

Easily Identifiable

I got there early and scouted the perfect spot to shoot Thursday’s processional through Vernal for fallen Marine Sgt. Daniel Gurr. Then this guy wandered into the frame. I trained my 35-350mm lens on him and knew instantly who it was, even from this distance, FOX 13′s own Pete DeLuca. I gave him a hard time about being in my shot, and then remembered this earlier post and decided not to push my luck. Only kidding. Pete was cool.

Mama’s Boy

I pulled up to Tracy Beede’s home Friday unsure of what to expect. Family friends had called me to tell me that Beede’s son, 21-year-old Marine Sgt. Daniel Gurr, had been killed in Afghanistan. I’d only driven over to photograph Beede’s yard, which neighbors had adorned with American flags, but was quickly invited inside to talk to Gurr’s mother, siblings, girlfriend and friends. Someone pulled out a photo of Gurr standing on a ship’s deck. When I set the photo down, Beede picked it up and held it for the rest of her interview with me. While we talked, I snapped this photo. Here’s the my story on Sgt. Daniel Gurr, who Beede told me was always a mama’s boy.
