Did you see this illustration in the Deseret News last Saturday? Proof that some things are so bad they become great.

After years as a Deseret News supporter I’m currently looking at other outlets for my Utah County news. The Daily Herald isn’t everything I need it to be, but I hope none of you missed this photos of the week gallery on their website.

Kudos to the photographers!
Great story in the Deseret News this morning about Kiddie Kandids going out of business with no warning (or pay) to its employees. Thanks, executives!
Sorenson Capital, which said it did not profit from its investment in the company, blamed the closure on a sustained economic downturn combined with a photography marketplace shift that has seen increased availability of inexpensive, user-friendly digital photography technology. “Together, these forces effectively damaged Kiddie Kandids’ in-store photography customer base beyond repair,” it said.
A letter in today’s Deseret News…
Jeffrey Allred’s photo in Sunday’s paper may be considered by many a great action shot — arms in the air, hair blowing in the wind. That, however, was not my immediate focus. This child is not wearing a helmet. How many stories have been recently reported of head injuries while engaging in “harmless” activities? The Deseret News should be more responsible in this regard and not sacrifice promoting safety over showing us the perfect Kodak moment.

It’s been a while since the last letter like this one:
I for one am tired of seeing pictures of grieving families in the newspaper. I don’t need to see broken hearts crying over their loved ones. This is a private affair for most families. Tragedy has already struck them, yet we compound it by splashing it all over for the world to see. An article will suffice. Let the families have some dignity. Don’t publish pictures that are personal.

Anyone have thoughts about it? I thought Keith Johnson’s photo, which I’m guessing triggered this letter, was a masterpiece. I’ll post it here from the gallery on the News’s site:

If that photo needs to come down from this post for copyright reasons, I understand. I just wanted people to see it.
Front page this morning’s Deseret News:
Heidi Walker had an uneasy feeling something wasn’t right.
Walker, a professional photographer with Heidi Photography, had just finished shooting a wedding at Temple Square when she sensed she was being watched as she walked back to her car.
