The the past 20 years, I have covered literally thousands of basketball games at all levels. Tonight, another. Big rivalry. Different teams, different location, but still the same game. Except for one thing. A few weeks ago, one of the players on the home team was diagnosed with cancer. His season was replaced with chemo. When the visitors took the court, every one of the players had this kids initials and number written on their legs or arms.
That is what high school sports is about.
Codes for the BYU vs Air Force and Utah vs San Diego games.
Tried to find all of the duplicate numbers. If there is more than one option, the code will put both names in.

In loving honor of Doug Pizac, who is still alive, here are the code replacements for the Mountain West men’s and women’s basketball teams. The men’s lists were taken from the ESPN website. They have been double checked against the school’s site and appear to be accurate. Since ESPN doesn’t recognize women’s sports unless there is hair pulling, the rosters were taken from the school’s site. As always, it’s always best to double, nay, triple check at game time.
Format is
(code)(number) for School’s Name (number)
or add an “n” after the number to not include the school name, like when you are IDing more than one player.

Utah and BYU head coaches are ych and uch.

Women’s school codes are the same with a “w” in before the school.

Wasted Frames? There are no wasted frames, right. What I mean are the images you shoot while on assignment that you have no intention of ever turning in. The things you shoot to keep awake during a press conference. Or while waiting outside a building for someone to walk out carrying a box of representing his/her former career (damn you, Al). The stuff you shoot for you. Here’s to sneaking one past the editors on occasion.
