Erin had to find her own approach the subject: “MMA is male-dominated and testosterone-driven, so part of the challenge for me as a woman has been accessing everything beyond the cage and tapping into the fighter psyche. What drives one to train for months, perfecting body and mind, only to step into the ring to punch, kick and choke an opponent into submission or risk pain, injury and humiliation?”

Sun Bowl Photo Work Room

12 31 2011 1982

The photo is funny by itself, but keep in mind the only way I could get in and out was by making my way through all of these shooters to the door at top right.

NPPA Announces Reorganized Best Of Photojournalism Contest For 2012

NPPA

The National Press Photographers Association today made several significant announcements about its annual Best Of Photojournalism contest, including a reorganization of the competition as visual journalism moves into a new era. Along with a new and easier way to enter, there’s also some category revisions plus some new categories, and winners will be picked using a mixture of online and on-site judging.

What, four days left in 2011?

At the end of each year we go through every photo posted to this site and come up with the nominees for the Utah Photojournalism State Championships. The votes of your fellow members of the site will determine the champions.

Bottom line…
You’ve only got a few days left to post your best photos for consideration.

Photoshopped-train image leaves cautionary tale for media

From the Standard Examiner:

The photo generated a number of comments from readers who were impressed with the ability of the photographer to capture such a moment in time with a single shot.

Well, the image was actually two separate photos taken minutes apart and combined into one shot.

That’s right, unknown to us at the time, it was a Photoshopped image. The photo represented an event that didn’t happen.
