Nine journalists out of work. Hurrah!

From a letter to the editor that appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune:

If a smaller design staff means fewer, smaller photos and graphics, I say, hurrah — that leaves more room for news. And whenever I start grumbling about typos or misplaced modifiers, I’m going to be thankful for the bigger picture and excuse these minor faults.

Anyone? Anyone?

By now most of you know that I’ll be leaving my post at the Daily Herald for another job opportunity. I’ll be sticking around for another month to help find my replacement. If you or anyone you know is interested in a photo editing/chief photographer job, let me know.

Photo Editor at the Daily Herald
The Daily Herald is looking for an individual to fill its full-time chief photographer and photo editing position. The applicant should be an energetic and ambitious photojournalist with an understanding of, and a passion for, community news. Responsibilities include covering some photo assignments while managing a staff of three photographers and one videographer. The person is also responsible for managing daily assignments and assigning them to the photographers and attending the daily budget meeting.
A knowledge of photography and photo editing as well as experience with cameras and Mac computers is essential.
Benefits include 401k and health insurance.
Please send a resume to Randy Wright at rwright@heraldextra.com or Ashley Franscell at afranscell@heraldextra.com as soon as possible.

Layoffs at the Tribune

From a bunch of twitter accounts it looks like two people at least have been let go at the Tribune. Not sure who or what department or how many are yet to come. Any Trib people know anything?

I found it on Ben Winslow’s twitter that has links to a bunch of Tribune employees talking about it: http://twitter.com/benwinslow
