AP’s Horst Faas dies

If you’re a photojournalist and don’t know the name Horst Faas, you should, because you’ve seen the Pulitzer Prize images he not only won himself, but had a major role in the winning of them by other combat photographers — Eddie Adams’ photo of Vietnam’s national police chief executing a Viet Cong prisoner with a pistol shot to the head on a city street and Nick Ut’s photo of a napalmed little girl running down the road naked.  I first met Faas when covering the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles for AP; and met up with him for the last time during the 2004 Summer Games in Athens. He was and still is the role model for combat photography.  Here’s the obit story and some photos:
